Series: Series on Knots & Everything 75
Pub. Date: 21-Aug-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811271144

Description

Dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Zbigniew Oziewicz from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, the book consists of papers on a wide variety of topics related to the work of Professor Oziewicz, which were presented at the special conference on Graph-Operads-Logic (GOL 2021), selected through peer review to promote his scientific legacy.Professor Oziewicz was a great enthusiast and supporter of category theory and its applications in physics, as well as in various areas of mathematics (topology, noncommutative geometry, etc.). In particular, he made significant contributions to the theory of Frobenius algebras, which now are becoming more important due to their connection with topological quantum field theories that are used in mathematical physics and in quantum topology. Professor Oziewicz was a great and very generous teacher, who immersed his students in the beautiful ideas of category theory as well as mathematical physics and computation. It was his idea to start a series of conferences under the title Graphs-Operads-Logic, most of them held in Mexico, with some of them in the USA, which were a great platform to discuss various ideas connected with category theory and its various applications, and to make friends with other scientists. Despite his passing, the GOL 2021 conference is included in this series to pay tribute to his many contributions to diverse areas of science. The book is laid out in twelve main topics where we can find relevant works from distinguished experts.

Pub. Date: 30-Jun-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811270918

Description

The basics of complex functions will be explained for students of Engineering Sciences, with the aim of being able to use 'complex function theory' as a tool. The goal is not rigor as mathematics, but ease of use that may suit the application. Explanations are based on concrete examples rather than abstract general theory. The book starts from very beginning of complex numbers, and extends theory of Introduction to Elliptic Function and Hypergeometric Differential Equations

Partial Differential Equation

Format: Hardback, 200 pages
Series: Utokyo Engineering Course/ Basic Mathematics
Pub. Date: 30-Jun-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811270888

Description

Quite a number of phenomena in science and technology, industrial and/or agricultural production and transport, medical and/or biological flows and movements, social and/or economical developments, etc., depend on many variables, and are very much complicated. Although the detailed knowledge is accumulated in respective fields, it is meaningful to model and analyze the essential part of the phenomena in terms of smaller number of variables, which falls into partial differential equations. This book aims at providing students and researchers the basic ideas and the methods to solve problems in various fields. Particular attention is paid to bridge the gap between mathematics and the real world. To do this, we start from a simple system with intuitively understandable physical background, extract the essential part, formulate into mathematical tools, and then generalize for further application. Here logical thinking in depth and wide linking to various fields are sought to construct intellectual network.

Smooth-automorphic Forms And Smooth-automorphic Representations

Format: Hardback, 250 pages
Series: Series on Number Theory and Its Applications 17
Pub. Date: 12-Jul-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811246166

Description

This book provides a conceptual introduction into the representation theory of local and global groups, with final emphasis on automorphic representations of reductive groups G over number fields F.Our approach to automorphic representations differs from the usual literature: We do not consider 'K-finite' automorphic forms, but we allow a richer class of smooth functions of uniform moderate growth. Contrasting the usual approach, our space of 'smooth-automorphic forms' is intrinsic to the group scheme G/F.This setup also covers the advantage that a perfect representation-theoretical symmetry between the archimedean and non-archimedean places of the number field F is regained, by making the bigger space of smooth-automorphic forms into a proper, continuous representation of the full group of adelic points of G.Graduate students and researchers will find the covered topics appear for the first time in a book, where the theory of smooth-automorphic representations is robustly developed and presented in great detail.

Algebraic K-theory:
The Homotopy Approach Of Quillen And An Approach From Commutative Algebra

Format: Hardback, 550 pages
Pub. Date: 19-Aug-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811269387

Description

In this book the author takes a pedagogic approach to Algebraic K-theory. He tried to find the shortest route possible, with complete details, to arrive at the homotopy approach of Quillen [ Q] to Algebraic K-theory, with a simple goal to produce a self-contained and comprehensive pedagogic document in Algebraic K-theory, that is accessible to upper level graduate students. That is precisely what this book faithfully executes and achieves. The contents of this book can be divided into three parts - (1) The main body (Chapters 2-8), (2) Epilogue Chapters (Chapters 9, 10, 11) and (3) the Background and preliminaries (Chapters A, B, C, 1). The main body deals with Quillen's definition of K-theory and the K-theory of schemes. Chapters 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 provide expositions of the paper of Quillen [ Q], and chapter 4 is on agreement of Classical K-theory and Quillen K-theory. Chapter 8 is an exposition of the work of Swan [ Sw1] on K-theory of quadrics. The Epilogue chapters can be viewed as a natural progression of Quillen's work and methods. These represent significant benchmarks and include Waldhausen K-theory, Negative K-theory, Hermitian K-theory, ??-theory spectra, Grothendieck-Witt theory spectra, Triangulated categories, Nori-Homotopy and its relationships with Chow-Witt obstructions for projective modules. In most cases, the proofs are improvisation of methods of Quillen [ Q].The background, preliminaries and tools needed in chapters 2-11, are developed in chapters A on Category Theory and Exact Categories, B on Homotopy, C on CW Complexes, and 1 on Simplicial Sets.

Attractors, Shadowing, And Approximation Of Abstract Semilinear Differential Equations

Format: Hardback, 200 pages
Pub. Date: 21-Aug-2023
ISBN-13: 9789811272776

Description

The book is devoted to some branches of the theory of approximation of abstract differential equations, namely, approximation of attractors in the case of hyperbolic equilibrium points, shadowing, and approximation of time-fractional semilinear problems. In this book, the most famous methods of several urgent branches of the theory of abstract differential equations scattered in numerous journal publications are systematized and collected together, which makes it convenient for the initial study of the subject and also for its use as a reference book. The presentation of the material is closed and accompanied by examples; this makes it easier to understand the material and helps beginners to quickly enter into the circle of ideas discussed. The book can be useful for specialists in partial differential equations, functional analysis, theory of approximation of differential equations, and for all researchers, students, and postgraduates who apply these branches of mathematics in their work.
